What YDS, YÖKDİL and e-YDS are
These are Turkey's official Foreign Language Exams (Yabancı Dil Sınavı), run by ÖSYM and used for academic promotion, postgraduate admission, and civil service requirements. YDS and its computer-based version e-YDS test general English; YÖKDİL is the field-specific version, split into Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences papers.

How the exams are structured
All three are entirely reading-based, multiple-choice exams: no writing or speaking component. Expect grammar and vocabulary questions, cloze passages, sentence completion, paragraph completion, translation-style questions, and long reading passages, all under significant time pressure across roughly 180 minutes.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between YDS and YÖKDİL?
YDS tests general English. YÖKDİL tests English within your academic field (Health, Social, or Natural Sciences), with more field-specific vocabulary and reading passages; check which one your institution actually requires.
Is e-YDS the same difficulty as YDS?
Yes, same format and difficulty, just delivered on computer with more frequent sitting dates, which is why many candidates now prefer it.
