What TOEFL and PTE are
TOEFL iBT (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and PTE Academic (Pearson Test of English) are both fully computer-delivered English proficiency exams, widely accepted by universities across the US, Canada, Australia and beyond, and increasingly used for visa and migration purposes.
Exam format
How the exams are structured
TOEFL iBT runs about 2 hours: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing, with several integrated tasks that combine reading or listening with speaking or writing. PTE Academic runs about 2 hours in one continuous sitting, with Speaking & Writing combined into a single section, followed by Reading and Listening. Many task types are auto-scored, so timing and clarity matter more than they do on a human-marked exam.

Applicants to universities that accept TOEFL or PTE instead of or alongside IELTS, and anyone applying for a visa pathway (particularly in Australia) where PTE's fast turnaround and computer scoring are an advantage.

Frequently asked questions
Is PTE easier than IELTS?
Not inherently: it tests the same skills. What differs is the format: PTE is entirely computer-marked and moves faster, which suits some students and disadvantages others. We can help you decide which format plays to your strengths.
Can I take TOEFL or PTE from home?
Both offer remote/at-home versions in many countries alongside test-centre sittings. Availability depends on your location; we can point you to what's offered near you.
