What IELTS is
The International English Language Testing System is the world's most widely accepted English proficiency exam, used for university admissions, skilled migration, and professional registration. It comes in two versions: Academic, for university study, and General Training, for migration and work. Both are scored on a 9-band scale across four skills.
Exam format
How the exam is structured
Listening (30 minutes, 4 recordings), Reading (60 minutes, 3 passages for Academic or a mix of workplace and general texts for General Training), Writing (60 minutes, two tasks: a report or letter, then an essay), and Speaking (11-14 minutes, a face-to-face interview in three parts). Listening, Reading and Writing are sat back-to-back on the same day; Speaking may be the same day or up to a week either side.

How long does it take to raise a band score?
It depends on your starting level and how much you practise between lessons, but most students preparing for a specific band move one full band over 8-12 weeks of consistent classes.
Academic or General Training, which do I need?
Academic is for university and higher-education admission. General Training is for immigration, work, and secondary education. Check what your destination institution or immigration authority asks for before you book.
